Information Technology Industry and GDP in world Economic Crisis: Drivers and future landscape

While the global economic crisis severely affected the economy of all developed and developing countries, many industries such as construction industry and airline industry have been plunge into record operating losses, but the industry of information and communication technology (ICT) continued to grow, though slightly. ICT affects the economy as an industry and as facilitator of other industries, so it may be one of the most important technologies in economy crisis.

In this workshop, the drivers of information technology (IT) industry that increase the gross domestic product (GDP) are focused on. The trends in the industry of IT and its influence on the GDP in developed and developing countries in the global economic crisis are discussed. The new technologies in field of IT such as broadband, economy in developed and developing countries, and the effect of the governmental policy on the subject are reviewed. Finally the results of a future study research about the matter in Iran that was carried out by ICT-SIS, has been reported.

Dr. H. Toure, the Secretary General of ITU, attends in the workshop and the end, after a short talk about the importance of the subject of workshop, appreciates the organizer and panelists.
