Abstract

Multilevel voltage source inverters have several advantages compare to traditional voltage source inverter. These inverters reduce cost, get better voltage waveform and decrease Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) by increasing the levels of output voltage. In this paper Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) methods are used to find the switching angles for achieving to the minimum THD for output voltage waveform of the Cascaded H-bridge Multi-Level Inverters (MLI). These methods are used for a 27-level inverter for different modulation indices. Result of two methods is identical and in comparison to other methods have the smallest THD. To verify results of two mentioned methods, a simulation using MATLAB/Simulink software is presented.

Abstract

This paper applied second order sliding mode control (SOSMC) strategy using artificial neural network (ANN) on the rotor side converter of a 1.5 MW doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) integrated in a wind turbine system. In this work, the converter is controlled by a neural space vector modulation (NSVM) technique in order to reduce powers ripples and total harmonic distortion (THD) of stator current. The validity of the proposed control technique applied on the DFIG is verified by Matlab/Simulink. The active power, reactive power, torque and stator current are determined and compared with conventional control method. Simulation results presented in this paper shown that the proposed control scheme reduces the THD value and powers ripples compared to traditional control under various operating conditions.

Abstract

This paper presents the three topologies of three-phase four-wire DSTATCOM for reduction of harmonics, reactive power compensation, increasing power factor, which occur due to a nonlinear load, environment problem and polluted grid. The performances of the above topologies have been compared for the magnitude of source current, power factor improvement, DC-link voltage regulation, and total harmonic distortion. This paper presents a novel work for the new young scientist /industrialist who working in the improvement of power quality in the grid. This paper helps to provide the application, designing constraints of shunt active filter in many fields. The First topology which is used in this paper is the three-phase four-wire four-pole voltage source converter based DSTATCOM. The second is the three-phase four-wire with three-leg voltage source converter based DSTATCOM with T-connected transformer and the third topology is the three H-bridge voltage source converter based DSTATCOM. The T-connected transformer in the second topology has been used to reduce the rating for voltage source converter. Synchronous reference frame theory based controller has been proposed to the generation of the reference current. Reference current generated from the synchronous frame theory is processed to hysteresis current controller loop which produces switching pulses for VSC based DSTATCOM. All these topologies have been implemented in MATLAB /Simulink platform by using different types of loading conditions such as resistive and power electronics load.

Abstract

The space vector modulation (SVM) method was recently proposed and captured the interest of scientific research in the following years. In this paper, besides a brief review of the SVM methods proposed in the literature, a new SVM strategy based on the calculation of the minimum (Min) and maximum (Max) of three-phase voltages is proposed. The proposed SVM technique does not have to calculate the sector and angle, as is done in the traditional SVM technique. Therefore, it is the easiest technique to accomplish compared to the traditional SVM method and other existing methods. Compared with the traditional pulse width modulation (PWM), the advantage of using this new SVM strategy is that the scheme is simple and the total harmonic distortion (THD) value in the output of the two-level inverter is minimized. The technology has been simulated by MATLAB/Simulink, and then implemented on a real traditional two-level inverter using the dSPACE card. It is worth reporting the reduction obtained for THD using the proposed SVM technique (where THD is about 70%) compared to the traditional PWM technique (where THD is about 79.5%).
