Abstract

Abstract: Nowadays knowledge is recognized as an important enabler for competitive advantages and many companies are beginning to establish knowledge management systems. Within the last few years many organizations tried to design a suitable knowledge management system and many of them were successful. This paper is to discover critical success factors (CSF) of knowledge management (KM) and their relationships in an effective way. A qualitative case study technique has been used in this paper for data collection and analysis. In this way, grounded theory (GT) research approach has been selected .The collected data are categorized and analyzed through specific stages of GT. A semantic network has been developed by categorized data showing the relationships between the extracted CSFs and finally a theory has been emerged. The semantic network and the emerged theory show the roadmap of success in KM area for the organizations.

Abstract

The advent of e-commerce has prompted many manufacturers to redesign their traditional channel structure by engaging in direct sales. In this paper, we present a dual channel inventory model based on queuing theory in a manufacturer-retailer supply chain, consisting of a traditional retail channel and a direct channel which stocks are kept in both upper and lower echelon. The system receives stochastic demand from the both channel which each channel has an independent demand arrival rate. A lost-sales model which no backorder is allowed is supposed. The replenishment lead times are assumed independent exponential random variables for both warehouse and the retail store. Under the replenishment inventory policy, the inventory position is kept constant at a base-stock level. To analyze the chain performance, an objective function included holding and lost sales costs is defined. At the end, a proposed algorithm named, Best Neighborhood (BN) is used to find a good solution for inventory and the results are compared with Simulated Annealing (SA) solutions.

Abstract

Cutoff grade is a grade used to assign a destination label to a parcel of material. The optimal cutoff grades depend on all the salient technological features of mining, such as the capacity of extraction and of milling, the geometry and geology of the orebody, and the optimal grade of concentrate to send to the smelter. The main objective of each optimization of mining operation is to maximize the net present value of the whole mining project, but this approach without consideration of environmental issues during planning is not really an optimum design. Lane formulation among the all presented algorithms is the most commonly used method for optimization of cutoff grades. All presented models for optimum cutoff grades are ore-oriented and in none of them the costs related to waste materials which must to be minimized during the mine life are considered. In this paper, after comparison of traditional and modern approaches for cutoff grade optimization in open pit mines, a real case study is presented and discussed to ensure optimality of the cutoff grades optimization process.

Abstract

Modern business organizations have appreciated the significance of having competitive advantage through the delivery of continuous improvement towards the customers, and being knowledge-oriented. Indisputably, Knowledge Management (KM) plays a key role in the success of Customer Relationship Management (CRM). In this regard, Customer Knowledge Management (CKM) is a newly developed concept that deals with knowledge from customers rather than knowledge about customers. However, little research has been done on the application of CKM in e-business. In this paper, after an overview of the literature, an application of CKM in Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) measurement is studied in an e-retailer case where Corporate Image and Reputation are taken into consideration.

Abstract

The dynamic nature of projects and the fact that they are carried out in changing environments, justify the need for their periodic monitoring and control. Collection of information about the performance of projects at control points costs money. The corrective actions that may need to be taken to bring the project in line with the plan also costs money. On the other hand, penalties are usually imposed when due to “no monitoring” policies projects are delivered later than expected. Thence, this paper addresses two fundamental questions in this regard. First question concerns the optimal frequency of control during the life cycle of a project. The second question concerns the optimal timing of control points. Our solution methodology consists of a simulation-optimization model that optimizes the timing of control points using the attraction-repulsion mechanisms borrowed from the electromagnetism theory. A mathematical model is also used to optimally expedite the remaining part of the project when possible delays are to be compensated.

Abstract

This paper is to develop a knowledge management (KM) model in some Iranian academic research centers (ARC) based on KM critical success factors. General KM critical success factors (CSF) were identified through literature review. Then the research procedure led to the identification of KM critical success factors in Iranian ARCs including 16 different factors. It was done through first stage survey by about 300 sample targets. Then, these 16 factors were surveyed separately again by experts through a Delphi panel. The experts suggested their practical solutions for exploiting the 16 factors in ARCs through a KM framework based on a KM cycle. This 2 years research has been done during 2006 to 2008.

Abstract

This paper aims at emphasizing the importance of establishing a Project Management (PM) system in Technology Transfer (TT) processes and developing a conceptual framework for it. TT is an important process in Technology Management affairs for all enterprises.  Most of the time, lack of a particular concentration on technical, commercial and legal aspects of TT process, leads to mismanagement of other aspects of transferring project, like Time and Project Integration. This situation may lead to failure and loss of many opportunities in transfer process. To overcome this problem, inputs, outputs and activities of a typical TT processes are identified and based on these components, a conceptual framework for managing this project & prevent the loss is developed using Project Management models and methodologies.

Abstract

Nowadays, in turbulent and violate global markets, agility has been considered as a fundamental characteristic of a supply chain needed for survival. To achieve the competitive edge, companies must align with suppliers and customers to streamline operations, as well as agility beyond individual companies. Consequently Agile Supply Chain (ASC) is considered as a dominant competitive advantage.  However, so far a little effort has been made for designing, operating and evaluating agile supply chain in recent years. Therefore, in this study a new approach has been developed based on Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) for evaluating agility in supply chain considering agility capabilities such as Flexibility, Competency, Cost, Responsiveness and Quickness. This evaluation helps managers to perform gap analysis between existent agility level and the desired one and also provides more informative and reliable information for decision making. Finally the proposed model has been applied to a leading car manufacturing company in Iran to prove the applicability of the model.

Abstract

Assessment and selection of suppliers are two most important tasks in the purchasing part in supply chain management. Supplier selection can be considered to be a single or multi-objective problem. From another point of view, it can be a single or multi-sourcing problem. In this paper, an integrated AHP and Fuzzy TOPSIS model is proposed to solve the supplier selection problem. This model makes the decision-maker to be able to solve this problem with different criteria and different weight for each criterion with respect to the purchasing strategy. Finally, the proposed model is illustrated by an example.

Abstract

In nowadays world competitive market, on account of the development of electronic media and its influence on shortening distances, companies require some core competencies in order to be able to compete with numerous competitors in industry and sustain their situation in such a market. In addition companies achieve this target are those which their processes perform great and exploit from competitive price, quality, guarantee, etc. Since some parameters such as price and quality are so dependent on the performance of company supply chain management, so the results can highly impress the final price and quality of products. One of the main processes of supply chain management is supplier selection process which its accurate implementation can dramatically increase company competitiveness. In presented article two layers of suppliers have been considered as a chain of suppliers. First layer suppliers are evaluated by two groups of criteria which the first one encompasses criteria belongs to first layer suppliers features and the second group contains criteria belong to the characteristics of second layer suppliers. One of the criteria is the performance of second layer suppliers against environmental issues. Then the proposed approach is solved by a method combined of concepts of fuzzy set theory (FST) and linear programming (LP) which has been nourished by real data extracted from an engineering design and supplying parts company. At the end results reveal the high importance of considering second layer suppliers features as a criteria for selecting the best supplier.

Abstract

In this paper an Ant Colony (ACO) algorithm is developed to solve aircraft recovery while considering disrupted passengers as part of objective function cost. By defining the recovery scope, the solution always guarantees a return to the original aircraft schedule as soon as possible which means least changes to the initial schedule and ensures that all downline affects of the disruption are reflected. Defining visibility function based on both current and future disruptions is one of our contributions in ACO which aims to recover current disruptions in a way that cause less consequent disruptions. Using a real data set, the computational results indicate that the ACO can be successfully used to solve the airline recovery problem .

Abstract

One of an important factor in the success of organizations is the efficiency of knowledge flow. The knowledge flow is a comprehensive concept and in recent studies of organizational analysis broadly considered in the areas of strategic management, organizational analysis and economics. In this paper, we consider knowledge flows from an Information Technology (IT) viewpoint. We usually have two sets of technological challenges that prevent the knowledge flow efficiency in the organizations: the passive kind of present knowledge management technologies and the information excess problem. To get the efficient flow of knowledge, we need high exactness recommender systems and dynamic knowledge management technologies that automate knowledge transportation and permit the management and control of knowledge flow . In this paper, we combine and make upon the information management systems and workflows presented in literature to generate technologies that address the serious gap between current knowledge management systems. Also, we propose a knowledge management framework for educational organizations and use this framework in a real situation and analyze the results. The weakness of knowledge flow infrastructure is one of the most important barriers to knowledge sharing through an organization. The proposed technology in this paper provides a new generation of knowledge management systems that will permit the efficient flow of knowledge and conquest to the technological constraints in knowledge sharing across an organization .

Abstract

This paper aims to evaluate inventory cost of a Two-echelon serial supply chain system under vendor managed inventory program with stochastic demand, and examine the effect of environmental factors on the cost of overall system. For this purpose, we consider a two-echelon serial supply chain with a manufacturer and a retailer. Under Vendor managed inventory program, the decision on inventory levels are made by manufacturer centrally. In this paper, we assume that the manufacturer monitors inventory levels at the retailer location and replenishes retailer's stock under (r, n, q) policy moreover, the manufacturer follows make-to-order strategy in order to respond retailer's orders. In the other word, when the inventory position at the retailer reaches reorder point, r, the manufacturer initiates production of Q=nq units with finite production rate, p. The manufacturer replenishes the retailer's stock with replenishment frequency n, and the complete batch of q units to the retailer during the production time. We develop a renewal reward model for the case of Poisson demand, and drive the mathematical formula of the long run average total inventory cost of system under VMI. Then, by using Monte Carlo simulation, we examine the effect of environmental factors on the cost of overall system under VMI .

Abstract

Improving knowledge worker productivity has been one of the most important tasks of the century. However, we have few measures or management interventions to make such improvement possible, and it is difficult to identify patterns that should be followed by knowledge workers because systems and processes in an organization are often regarded as a death blow to creativity. In this paper, we seek to present a method for prediction of Knowledge worker productivity (KWP) that it must be capable of predicting the productivity of the knowledge workers in a one year period of time based on the Fuzzy cognitive maps (FCM) technique Based on Real Coded Genetic Algorithm (RCGA) , as well as presenting the best option from among different options as the knowledge workers’ productivity improving strategy (suggesting solution), based on the results gained from this and the previous section and depending on the requirements. The validity of the suggested model will be tested in an Iranian Company .

  Supplier selection,

  Multi-objective decision making,

  Fuzzy Compromise programming,

  Supply chain management,

  Quantity discount .

Supplier selection is naturally a complex multi-objective problem including both quantitative and qualitative factors. This paper deals with this issue from a new view point. A quantity discount situation, which plays a role of motivator for buyer, is considered. Moreover, in order to find a reasonable compromise solution for this problem, at first a multi-objective modeling is presented. Then a proposed fuzzy compromise programming is utilized to determine marginal utility function for each criterion. Also, group decision makers’ preferences have taken into account and the weight of each criterion has been measured by forming pair-wise comparison matrixes. Finally the proposed approach is conducted for a numerical example and its efficacy and efficiency are verified via this section. The results indicate that the proposed method expedites the generation of compromise solution .

Abstract

Design of a logistics network in proper way provides a proper platform for efficient and effective supply chain management. This paper studies a multi-period, multi echelon and multi-product integrated forward-reverse logistics network under uncertainty. First, an efficient complex mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model by considering some real-world assumptions is developed for the integrated logistics network design to avoid the sub-optimality caused by the separate design of the forward and reverse networks. Then, the stochastic counterpart of the proposed MILP model is used to measure the conditional value at risk (CVaR) criterion, as a risk measure, that can control the risk level of the proposed model. The computational results show the power of the proposed stochastic model with CVaR criteria in handling data uncertainty and controlling risk levels.

The present research is conducted to show that organizations can use wiki to attract customers' purchase intention inside the e-commerce context. Considering the relation between wiki and ecommerce for CRM, this research tries to explore the characteristics such as perceived risk, customer experience, knowledge sharing culture, trust and knowledge sharing in wiki tool impact on purchase intentions in the web site. By using multidimensional analysis, this study shows that choosing a suitable tool for hosting in the websites in order to gather essential knowledge from customers plays an important role in explaining certain customer online behavior. In particular, the researchers propose a model that explains wikis require a culture of collaboration and sharing in an online environment to achieve a win-win situation between customers and producers.

Abstract

This paper presents a new formulation for warehouse inventory management in a stochastic situation. The primary source of this formulation is derived from FP model, which has been proposed by Fletcher and Ponnambalam for reservoir management. The new proposed mathematical model is based on the first and the second moments of storage as a stochastic variable. Using this model, the expected value of storage, the variance of storage, and the optimal ordering policies are determined. Moreover, the probability of within containment, surplus, and shortage are computable without adding any new variables. To validate the optimization model, a Monte Carlo simulation is used. Furthermore, to evaluate the performance of the optimal FP policy, It is compared to (s*,S*) policy, as a very popular policy used in the literature, in terms of the expected total annual cost and the service level. It is also demonstrated that the FP policy has a superior performances than (s*,S*) policy.

Abstract

Implementation of the risk management concepts into construction practice may enhance the performance of project by taking appropriate response actions against identified risks. This research proposes a multi-criteria group decision making approach for the evaluation of different alternative response scenarios. To take into account the uncertainties inherent in evaluation process, fuzzy logic is integrated into the revaluation process. To evaluate alternative response scenarios, first the collective group weight of each criterion is calculated considering opinions of a group consisted of five experts. As each expert has its own ideas, attitudes, knowledge and personalities, different experts will give their preferences in different ways. Fuzzy preference relations are used to unify the opinions of different experts. After computation of collective weights, the best alternative response scenario is selected by the use of proposed fuzzy group decision making methodology which aggregates opinions of different experts. To evaluate the performance of the proposed methodology, it is implemented in a real project and the best alternative responses scenario is selected for one of the identified risks.

Abstract

In this paper, we consider a stochastic Time-Cost Tradeoff Problem (TCTP) in PERT networks for project management, in which all activities are subjected to a linear cost function and assumed to be exponentially distributed. The aim of this problem is to maximize the project completion probability with a pre-known deadline to a predefined probability such that the required additional cost is minimized. A single path TCTP is constructed as an optimization problem with decision variables of activity mean durations. We then reformulate the single path TCTP as a cone quadratic program in order to apply polynomial time interior point methods to solve the reformulation. Finally, we develop an iterative algorithm based on Monte Carlo simulation technique and conic optimization to solve general TCTP. The proposed approach has been tested on some randomly generated test problems. The results illustrate the good performance of our new approach.
