  Department of Applied Design

A design engineer is in charge of appropriate designing of engineering structures as well as machinery and their parts. These days along with advancements in technology, assigned missions to design engineers are more than ever, complex in nature. Design and production of machinery or parts performing in high speed or temperature that has to be very endurable and weigh far less than before are routine task of engineers. Moreover, these parts and machinery would have to be environment friendly possess noticeable aesthetics and while having dimensions of extra ordinary magnitude, need to be made in a very economical manners.

Department of Applied Design at IUST’s School of Mechanical Engineering provides courses and research topics of those objectives for students to ensure their prosperity and enhancement in design and other related engineering activities. This will enable the graduates to play a role in assisting the related industries throughout the country.

Department of Applied Design as one of the oldest departments within IUST, graduates large number of students at both undergraduate as well as graduate level and PhD studies. M.Sc program is divided into two majors: solid mechanics and vibration and control. Enjoying cooperation of 5 professors and 5 associate professors along with other assistant professors, Department of Applied Design is among the strongest departments at IUST academically and possesses 7 research laboratories within the School of Mechanical Engineering.
